Development Associate

Lancaster Farmland Trust seeks a motivated, experienced candidate to join our team as a Development Associate. Lancaster Farmland Trust is a private, nonprofit organization with a mission to preserve and steward the beautiful, productive farmland of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania that reflects our heritage, supports our economy, protects our environment, nourishes our health, and enhances our quality of life. The Trust has preserved 489 farms on 29,854 acres of land.

Essential Duties:

The Development Associate provides assistance to the Director of Development and Communications in raising the funds necessary to advance the mission of Lancaster Farmland Trust.

Specific duties include:

I. Fundraising support

- Maintain donor database

- Assist in the creation of solicitation letters and campaigns

- Conduct research on donors and donor prospects

- Coordinate and schedule fundraising and prospect mailings

- Manage the donor acknowledgement process

- Manage the charitable registration process

- Produce mailing lists and reports as needed

II. Grants

- Identify and research public and private funding sources whose priorities align with the Trust's mission

- Write grant proposals to appropriate funding sources as determined by Director of Development and Communications

- Organize and submit grant reports and drawdown requests by deadlines

- Provide program staff with appropriate information to achieve outputs and outcomes

III. Events

- Coordinate event related correspondence including invitations, solicitations to sponsors and other donors, pledge reminders and acknowledgements

- Assist with event planning and logistics

- Provide support for event committees

- Provide on-site support at events

IV. Organizational and Other

- Provide administrative support to the Director of Development and Communications

- Represent the Trust at community functions and through professional affiliations

- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Development and Communications

Qualifications and job requirements:

- Bachelor's Degree

- Excellent verbal and written skills

- Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to be self-motivated and disciplined

- Two years of experience in a similar position required; nonprofit experience preferred

- Working knowledge of software applications including Word, Excel, Adobe and fundraising databases.
